A very late Halloween post

Guess who likes Disney/Pixar's "Up"?!... If you guessed me then you sir and/or madam are correct! Because of my love for Up I decided to would go as one of the characters for Halloween. And of course I had to pick the most ridiculous character...Kevin! I made the costume out of wire, cardboard, felt, fun foam, and lots and lots of hot glue and duct tape.

I also made the body out of a cardboard box, some fibrefill and many feathers. Without the feathers it looked like the body of a very out of shape elderly woman. It was kind of gross.

Many feathers and hot glue gun burns later....

Tada!

I wore it to work on Halloween and won the costume contest! I recieved a lot of interesting comments from customers, some calling me Big Bird and some just giving me looks as if they had never seen a crazy person inside of a giant bird costume before. Even though the head kept hitting the menu boards behind me and my neck and back were really sore afterwards I still think that it was worth it. It was also really interesting trying to reach around an enormous bird belly to get change out of a till...

"You didn't take your tent number!"

Kendall's Girlfriend

So I was looking through some of my old life drawing and I found this little gem... I think that we were working on portrait type things and I somehow managed to make the model look like she was part rodent or something. It's just generally ridiculous looking and I kind of love it for that.

So because it turned out so beautifully, I made her my good friend Kendall's girlfriend! What a lucky guy!

So I know it's been pretty much forever since I last posted something, but I've been busy working all summer ok! So here's some stuff that I entered in the Saskatoon EX, for their art show thinger.

This painting was for the 'theme class' which for this year was 'Call of the Wild'. I decided to take them literally. My painting skills still leave a lot to be desired.... I mostly just like the fact that the zebra looks like it's dishing some pretty juicy gossip to the other animals...

I also entered a sculpture of one of my favorite people ever...Ellen Degeneres! So what if I'm a super dork? I made Ellen out of sculpy, and then the chair was a result of wire, cardboard, cottonballs and many hot glue gun burns.

The hands unfortunately broke, probably because Ellen got too tired of holding herself up like that in her chair. She does have super talkshow host muscles, but that's got to get tiring after a while!

Up up and away!

My friends Kirk, Kendall and I built the house from Disney Pixars 'UP' for a contest! It only took 4 days to build. Four very long days....Whoooooo for staying up for 24 hours at a time to finish it!

I colored this awhile ago in Photoshop. For some reason a lot of the animals that I draw tend to look cranky or unimpressed...

Let There Be Arts!

These are a couple of paintings that I did during my 2D design workshop last weekend!

The first painting is of a creature that I like to call 'The Shobster'. The Shobster is half shark, half lobster and all business. It has been known to leap out of giant swirling whirlpools and attack ships, and occasionally enjoys eating human legs. I actually created it in my first year of animation school for a storyboarding assignment at the end of the year. I'm pretty sure that I was very tired at the time...
The second one is of a weird scribble drawing that I found in my sketchbook and as of yet does not have a name. It enjoys emitting high pitched screams and taking long walks over densly populated cities. If you have any suggestions for a name I would be happy to hear them!

Hey there Y'all!

So seeing as how all of the other cool kids have blogs, I decided to accept my responsibility as a cool kid and get one too. And since my mom won't let me put all of my arts up on the refrigerator, I decided to throw them up here for everyone to gaze upon. Enjoy!
