Sound Effects

In my graphic novel class we had to do a comic incorporating sound effects.  For mine I decided to poke fun at the sound effects and at shows like Batman (the 60's one) that made great use of 'sound effects' during fight scenes.  The Batman movie is where I got my inspiration for the shark punching panel.  I didn't add the Bat-shark repellent though...

Here's the inked version.  I added the dialog later in photoshop.


And the colored version with the dialog added.  I flipped a couple of the panels to help it read better.  Coloring this thing took forever...

Alligator Vomit

So for my graphic novel class we had to do a 'slice of life' comic where we took something from our own lives be it happy/funny/sad/etc. and somehow make it into a comic strip.  I decided to use a somewhat traumatizing moment from 2nd grade where I was playing an alligator in the school play (I think it was about African animals?) and I threw up right in the middle of it.  My teacher and mother grabbed me out of the chorus and took me into the next room and got me cleaned up and I never saw that glorious alligator costume again.  Well at least it makes for a fun story.


Here's the inked version.  I had fun designing the animal costumes!

And because I am an over achiever I colored it too!


I fixed the audience panel because it was kind of crappy...  I've had a lot of comments on how nice the vomit looks.  The only downside to choosing this as my slice of life is that my nickname in class is now 'Alligator Vomit'...

3 Panel Transformation

So I recently started a Drawing for the Graphic Novel and Narrative Storytelling class taught by Riley Rossmo, and our first assignment was to transform our partner in the class into something representative of them in three panels.  My partner really liked tarantulas and had kind of spiky hair that I thought would work well in the transformation.  I kind of like how it turned out, but I wish that I had used something other than graphite to color it in...
